Recent Developments in IACLEA Accreditation Program

(This page was last updated on July 27, 2009)

IACLEA Accreditation awards were presented to eight member agencies during the Opening General Session of the 51st Annual Conference in Quebec City. This was the third consecutive year that agencies were recognized for “reaching the Gold Standard”. Certificates of accreditation to the Anne Arundel Community College Department of Public Safety, the Arkansas State University Police Department, the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Police Department, and the University of Western Ontario Campus Community Police Service. These departments distinguished themselves as being among the first agencies to achieve full IACLEA accreditation.

Four other departments, the University of Alabama at Birmingham Police Department, the University of Connecticut Police Department, the George Washington University Police Department, and the University of Texas at Houston Police Department also achieved IACLEA accreditation. Each of these agencies, currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), voluntarily elected to pursue IACLEA Accreditation though an accelerated process of “comparative compliance”.

The IACLEA Accreditation Commission has reviewed a number of revisions made by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) to their 5th Edition standards. To the extent that they alter the language or intent of the standards adopted for campus public safety accreditation, the modifications have been adopted as part of the IACLEA Accreditation Program. The changes are available at "Standards Manual Change Notices".
