James L. McGovern Scholarship Recipient
Marcie Haas of Bloomsburg University is the 2008 recipient of the James L. McGovern Scholarship and received a $750 scholarship. Marcie, a senior majoring in Elementary Education, will be graduating in May 2009. She works as an Office Assistant in the Bloomsburg Department of Safety and Police, assisting with clerical and semi-professional work. Robert Klinger, Director of Safety and Police, noted that Marcie's organizational skills and "ability to multi-task bring her great success while working in our hectic office." Marcie believes strongly in Henry Ward Beecher's quote: "Victories are easy and cheap. The only victories worth anything are those achieved through hard work and dedication." Marcie is a member of the University's SHARE program (a tutoring program) and SPSEA (Student Pennsylvania State Educators Association). She also volunteers in the community through the Key Club and Intergenerational Project (a group that visits nursing homes and interacts with the residents). Marcie is a dedicated, hard worker and has maintained a 4.0 GPA.
