Standards Manual Change Notices

In order to remain relevant and viable, campus public safety standards must be dynamic.  Standards need to reflect the most current professional practices in administration and operations.  Consequently, standards, within the IACLEA Accreditation Program, may be added, eliminated or revised.  It is the responsibility of the Standards Review and Interpretation Committee to propose modifications to the IACLEA Accreditation Commission for approval.

The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) continuously reviews, assesses and, as necessary, revises its standards.  They produce Change Notices that are numbered by edition number, followed by a decimal point and the sequential number of the change to that edition (e.g. 5.1, 5.2).  As CALEA implements changes to the standards adopted by IACLEA, the IACLEA Accreditation Commission reviews those changes and decides if the changes will be adopted too.  Change Notices are an essential component of the standards for campus law enforcement; they help ensure these standards continue to reflect the best and most up-to-date information the profession can offer, as well as maintain consistency with CALEA.

As IACLEA adopts changes made to CALEA standards, we will post the number and date of the Change Notice, list the standard(s) affected, and note the nature of the change(s).  Agencies are encouraged to purchase up-dated Standards Manuals, with the Change Notices, directly from CALEA.  When Change Notices are received from CALEA, the cover sheet should be inserted in the Standards Manual, immediately behind the title page.  These cover sheets will become a permanent record of the modifications made to the Manual.  The accompanying new or revised pages should be inserted in the Manual, according to their chapter and section numbers.  The old, correspondingly numbered chapters or sections should be discarded.  The new material will carry more recent dates than those being replaced.
