IACLEA Accreditation: The Designation of Excellence in Campus Public Safety

Accountability

Accreditation provides greater accountability and competency in daily operations. Officers and staff know what the policies and procedures are, how to perform them, and that they are accountable to them.

“Officers now have sound policies to rely on. They are fully capable of making good decisions, but having clear and concise policies eliminates ambiguity at critical times.”   -Chief Randy Repola, University of Colorado-Anschutz Medical Campus

IACLEA Accreditation signifies an agency’s ongoing commitment to excellent, state-of-the-art performance in every aspect of its operations. Accredited agencies demonstrate to their personnel, the campus community, and outside experts their professionalism and mission focus.

The IACLEA Accreditation Program—developed by and for campus public safety professionals—offers an accreditation process for non-sworn and sworn campus public safety agencies at colleges and universities across the United States.

The IACLEA Accreditation standards allow agencies to demonstrate compliance with state-of-the-art standards while retaining policies and programs that are unique to the needs of their campus communities. On March 5, 2021, the IACLEA Accreditation Commission released nine standards (six new and three modified) that align with Standards for Certification on Safe Policing for Safe Communities, the executive order President Trump issued following the murder of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer in May 2020.

The IACLEA Accreditation Commission works with agencies—public or private, large or small, sworn or non-sworn—on a case-by-case basis to determine which standards apply, allowing campus public safety agencies to measure themselves against professional best practices.
