IACLEA Statement on the Killing of Baton Rouge Police Officers
Jul 17, 2016
The killing of three police officers and the wounding of three others Sunday morning in Baton Rouge, LA, is a horrific act, which is made more appalling as it comes in the wake of the fatal shooting of five police officers in Dallas, TX, on July 7.
According to law enforcement authorities, three officers were killed and three others were wounded by a man who was killed by the police. The investigation continues into others who may have been involved or conspirators.
These brutal attacks on law enforcement officers are intolerable in a civil, democratic society. The shootings are a cause for serious concern for all citizens, in that all of us rely on police officers to serve and protect the public.
While the investigation is still in the early stages and a motive for the shootings is not clear, our thoughts and sympathies are with the victims families and the Baton Route community as it copes with this unspeakable tragedy.
