Message From New IACLEA Executive Director John Bernhards

I want to thank President Vinson for his warm welcome via IACLEA CONNECTIONS. I am absolutely thrilled to be part of the IACLEA member community, and to join the tremendously talented team of IACLEA staff at our headquarters in the Washington, DC, area. I am also honored to take on this role behind Sue Riseling, an amazing leader, who has worked so tirelessly and successfully to launch IACLEA as an independently operated non-profit organization and expand its visibility and services.

IACLEA plays an increasingly important role in protecting and serving our campus communities, providing the training, thought leadership, accreditation standards, public policy programs, recognition, and best practices that are critical to campus law enforcement and public safety.

Over the next 10 months, and with President Vinson’s leadership, IACLEA will establish a strategic plan, based on thorough input we will collect from both IACLEA members and prospective members. We will also seek to further instill a data-based, decision-making approach that will drive the future success of IACLEA’s many programs and services, and that will bring new members into our organization.

For me, working within the higher education’s association community is a tremendous privilege, and so personally rewarding, as it has created many lasting professional connections and close friends over the years.

To have this opportunity to pursue further my passion for both public safety and higher education, as the IACLEA Executive Director, is immensely exciting.

I hope to see you soon at one of the many IACLEA training opportunities, to include our Leadership Institute programs (EDI and FLSI), and of course the IACLEA Annual Conference. Please mark your calendars for New Orleans in June 22-25, 2020.  We promise an exceptional learning and networking experience for you!

I look forward to the opportunity to personally connect with all our members and to support you in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students and campus communities.  Please call on me, and let me know how I can be of service to you.

John
