During this week’s Annual Conference & Exposition Lewis Eakins, PhD, was appointed to serve as the Director-at-Large, replacing Paul Dean. Paul, who is Chief of Police and Associate Vice President for Public Safety & Risk Management at the University of New Hampshire, was sworn in during the Annual Business Meeting & Installation of Officers earlier today as Vice President of Finance, a position he won through a special election earlier this spring.
Lewis most recently was the Regional Director for Mountain Pacific; and in an email to IACLEA Institutional Member Representatives on Tuesday, Immediate Past-President Eric Heath and now Chair of the Leadership Development Committee, announced the call for a special election. The call for nominations for two seats—Lewis’s Mountain Pacific regional directorship and Regional Director of the North Atlantic—is open until 5 p.m. ET on July 22.
Jim Pollard’s North Atlantic regional directorship becomes open as he is retiring effective July 1. Jim has been Babson College’s Director of Public Safety/Chief of Police since April 2011.
Lewis’s regional directorship is now vacant as he is departing from Idaho State University after six years of service as the Chief Security Officer & Director of Public Safety. Even though he is leaving Idaho State, he has accepted a position as Vice President for Public Safety & Emergency Preparedness at Ivy Tech Community College in Indiana. Idaho State had a farewell party for Eakins on June 21.
“Please join me in congratulating Lewis Eakins on the appointment of Director-at-Large. He has been a valued member of the Board of Directors for several years, and despite his recent move to Indiana, IACLEA is lucky to retain his invaluable service,” President Ogden said.
“Please also join me in congratulating Jim Pollard on his upcoming retirement,” Ogden continued. “I wish him all the best in this new stage of life—and I’m certain he’d be delighted to receive your well wishes, too.”
“We look forward to the upcoming special selection and finding eligible nominees to serve in both vacant director positions,” Ogden said.
