Fallen Officer from Temple University

On Saturday, February 18, shortly after 7pm, one of our own, Officer Christopher Fitzgerald of the Temple University Police Department was murdered while protecting a student from a carjacker. The killing of Officer Fitzgerald hits home and to the core for all campus police and public safety officers who are out there every day protecting our students and campus communities. No words can convey how heartbroken and devastated we are.

Officer Fitzgerald served his community with the highest level of dedication and defines what a true hero is. He has left an indelible mark on our profession. He leaves behind a loving family, and we join them in mourning their loss.

I have been in contact with Jennifer Griffin, vice president for public safety for Temple University Police Department, to assess how we can support them and the family during this critical time.

Please join me in praying for Officer Fitzgerald’s family and loved ones.

With grief and sadness,
