On March 9, 2016, a delegation of nearly 15 IACLEA members and staff spent a on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. to meet with with key Congressional committee members and staff and discuss issues of importance to campus public safety.

During this time, IACLEA members also presented the 2016 Congressional Champion awards, this year, to two deserving individuals: U.S. Senators Lamar Alexander, R-TN, and Patty Murray, D-WA.  For the first time in the award’s nine-year history, IACLEA has selected co-recipients of the award.

Stated IACLEA President William F. Taylor, “IACLEA believes bipartisan cooperation is the key to developing and adopting legislation that serves the best interests of higher education. It is in this spirit, the organization selected Sen. Alexander and Sen. Murray who have worked cooperatively for the passage of the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) reauthorization. They have both demonstrated commitment to enhance higher education and support the work that our members do to protect the estimated 18 million students, faculty, staff and visitors to our nation’s college and university campuses.”  View the press release.
