Job Description Summary:


The Del Mar College District located in Corpus Christi, Texas is seeking a visionary, security focused Police Chief to lead the newly formed Del Mar College Police Department. The safety and security of our students, employees, and visitors is the primary focus of the police department.


Del Mar College is a comprehensive community college in Corpus Christi, Texas, founded in 1935. Del Mar College's enrollment consists of over 20,000 credit and continuing education students each year. Del Mar College has a diverse campus with the majority of students coming from Corpus Christi and the surrounding area. The College employs more than 1,200 full-time and part-time faculty and staff members.


The College has three campuses, three centers, and additional instructional space located within the College District and service area. Located on one of our campuses, the College has a Collegiate High School and Center for Early Learning, a licensed child Development center. Del Mar College campuses and centers also hold numerous events attended by the general public.


This is an extraordinary leadership opportunity to be part of the team that develops and grows a newly formed police department at a higher education institution.

The Chief of Police provides senior level leadership, strategic planning andadministrative direction for public safety and security for a multi-campus institution. Primary responsibilities include the development and administration of policies, procedures, and practices that will maintain and enhance the security of the emergency management functions of the college. Also supports and promotes Student Success initiatives and community services for students, faculty, staff and guests of the college.

The Chief of Police, as the proactive leader of the Del Mar College police department, utilizes contemporary and innovative methods of community policing and security services in a highly diverse environment in a manner appropriate for an institution of higher education.


The Chief of Police ensures enforcement and compliance with the laws of the State of Texas and College policies and procedures.


The Chief of Police is classified as essential personnel.


Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree.


Ten (10) years progressive law enforcement related work experience that includes five (5) years of senior supervisory experience.


Current and in good standing TCOLE certification as a Peace Officer.


Must possess and maintain a Master Peace Officer certification through the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement.


Valid Texas driver’s license in good standing.


NIMS Training: IS 100, 200, 700, and 800


Preferred Qualifications:


Master’s degree.

Work experience in higher education environment.

Advanced law enforcement leadership training such as Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) or the FBI National Academy.
