Salary: $87,600.00 - $106,476.00 Annually**.

**The work schedule for this positio nmay vary  based on operational needs. Employees in these positions will be paid 5% more than the stated rate due to the variable work schedule. Additionally, Sergeants are eligible for overtime pay. 

About the Position:

The SMC Police Department is seeking an experienced Police Officer or Police Supervisor who demonstrates P.R.I.D.E. (Professionalism, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence) in their work to join our team of law enforcement professionals. This individual will serve as the shift watch commander and will coordinate, supervise, and participate in a variety of activities designed to create a safe and secure environment for students and employees. This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, 12 months per year, based out of the Santa Monica College Main campus.

Our ideal candidate will be a critical thinker with the ability to make informed and logical decisions based on the situation, best practices, ethical considerations, and applicable laws, regulations, and rules. The individual will possess the ability to lead, motivate, and develop Police Officers and civilian staff under their command, and effectively work and communicate with a variety of stakeholder groups within the SMC community (e.g., union representatives, students, administrators).

Minimum Requirements:

Associate's degree or equivalent in Administrative of Justice or related field, and 3 years of experience as a P.O.S.T. certified police officer, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Possession of a P.O.S.T basic certificate and meet all requirements to obtain a P.O.S.T. intermediate certificate.
