Working for a police department on a college campus is a balancing act. Not only are you and your team charged with keeping campus safe, but you’re also setting initial perceptions of law enforcement in what is likely the student’s first individual interaction with police. Additionally, mass shootings and other horrifying incidents have made campus safety a chief concern for all.  Officers need to understand and be trained in emergency response to these critical events, as well as standard training procedures.

How can campus police chiefs ensure their officers are trained and prepared, while also fostering a positive work environment that supports recruiting and retention efforts?

In this special webinar presentation, we’ll discuss best practices and actionable strategies to improve training, retention, and department culture with current campus police chiefs, including Chief Jill Lees from the Indiana University Police Department in Bloomington, IN.

We’ll discuss:

  • Beyond basic training: must-have training courses
  • Accountability: how tracking training and transparency supports officers and students
  • Retention: why a positive culture matters and how to create it
