Meet the Presenters:
Angelica Auarez was born in Colombia, and then moved to the United States in her early teens. In 2002, she came to Gainesville to attend the University of Florida where she graduated and started an international nonprofit organization. After graduation she moved to Syracuse, New York to pursue a Master’s degree in Public Administration. Her fields of concentration included International Development and Conflict Resolution. With over a decade of experience leading international educational ventures, she comes to Santa Fe College to lead the office of International Student Services. Angelica serves on the college’s residency reclassification committee. She is the current District D coordinator for the Board of Directors of the Florida Association of International Educators.
Chief Ed Book of Santa Fe College, Gainesville, Florida since 2011. A 32+ year law enforcement official retiring previously from the Gainesville Police Department as District Commander and Captain.
Chief Book also serves as the College Emergency Manager and Behavioral Intervention Team Chair. He is an adjunct instructor teaching in the Bachelors of Science Organizational Management program and to public safety recruits. Obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences as a psychology major in 1984 and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership through the University of Florida in 2003. Member of several law enforcement organizations including the IACP, IACLEA, and Florida Police Chiefs. Currently serves on the advisory board for Campus Security Magazine and the Board of Directors for the Florida Design Out Crime Association and Gainesville Police Retiree Association. He is an active Rotary member holding several positions including Past President and currently is a Rotary Area Governor. The Santa Fe College Police Department was the 2016 recipient of special recognition by the International Associations of Chiefs of Police in Community Policing in Higher Education. In preceding years, the Police Department has received recognition as the Florida Crime Prevention Association Crime Prevention Unit of the Year, Florida Police Chiefs’ Rocky Pomerance Award for Excellence in Policing, & the inaugural Community Policing Award from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.
