About the Position:

The Augusta University Police Department seeks a dynamic law enforcement leader to lead its Administrative Services Division. The Augusta University Police Department is an accredited full service law enforcement agency with nearly 60 sworn Georgia POST certified police officers who serve the Augusta University community, to include the university, Augusta University Medical Center and the Children's Hospital of Georgia. The department embraces the philosophy of community policing as a culture and ascribes to core values of Respect, Integrity, Professionalism and Excellence while providing a high level of customer service oriented police services to its community.

 

Minimum Requirements:

High School Graduate/GED or Vocational School Diploma from an accredited State or Federal organization with eight years of sworn law enforcement experience to include a minimum of five years in a supervisory capacity.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Technical Diploma, two years college course work, Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and eight years sworn law enforcement experience in a university environment

This position is a POST certified position and must obtain certification within one year of employment

Departmental Requirements - Knowledge, Abilities, Skills

Knowledge of standard police practices and techniques

Effectively and professionally interact with employees, faculty, students, patients, visitors and other law enforcement personnel and represent the University to outside agencies well

Knowledge, maintenance and skill in the use of firearms

Extensive knowledge of the civil and criminal codes of the state of Georgia, legal terminology, court procedures, laws of arrest, evidence and criminal procedure

Working knowledge of programs such as Microsoft Office, ARMS and other computer software/databases

Possess advanced supervisory/management skills

Ability to demonstrate and exercise quick independent and sound judgement

Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills

Maintain confidentiality

 

Responsibilities:

The incumbent of this position duties include but are not limited to: manage and lead functions of the Administrative Services Division; supervise, lead, direct and evaluate staff to the assigned division; develop work schedules for staffing deployment; may formulate tentative budget information and requests, policies and regulations governing activities, submitting modification and approval; formulates division goals related to department and university strategic plan and provides reports regarding outcomes; completion of reports as requested by director of Public Safety/Chief of Police regarding crime trends, threat assessments, forecasting future needs for the university through the collection of criminal intelligence and analysis of current criminal conduct; provide that all reports and correspondence are complete and accurate for final approval; plan, direct and participate in the preparation and maintenance of a variety of records and reports; may manage the development and implementation of Incident Action Plans for special events; research, analyze, and evaluate best practices, new technology, new equipment, and tactics; may plan, coordinate and conduct department training, such as weapons re-qualification; perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Shift/Salary

Shift: Days/M-F

Pay Grade: 20

Salary: $55,869/Annual - $65,000/Annual

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Driver's License Statement

The Human Resources Division will request a recent driver's history report from the selected candidate. This report must come from the Department of Motor Vehicles and the fee will be paid for by the candidate. This report will be required prior to an offer being extended by Human Resources and must be from the state(s) in which the candidate has lived in for the past three years.

Credit Check

This position will require the acquisition of a P-Card and/or handle cash, credit or other sensitive information and will require a satisfactory Consumer Credit check as a condition of employment.
