Lessons Learned from the Maui Tragic Fire Incident
The deadly wildfires that consumed the town of Lahaina on the island of Maui shocked and horrified people around the world and raised significant questions. Vital information on communication, preparedness, and connectivity within communities goes a long way during emergencies. The presenter will walk participants through these concepts and major events leading up to the wildfire incident. There will be a discussion on lessons learned, command and control, and desired outcomes. This session will help organizations prepare to handle many tasks associated with disasters.
The Keys to Effective Crisis Management
Disasters or major emergencies can happen with or without warning, it is a matter of when, not if. This session will provide insights on how to build or further develop a cohesive emergency operation plan for campuses, schools, hospitals, resort centers, etc. The presenter will share best practices in incident command, identification of the right teams and assigning preparedness roles, new methods to create an incident-specific guide for your emergency management team, considerations for the first 1-15 minutes after a major incident, and considerations for a successful recovery process. A sample incident-specific response template will be provided to all participants.
Mental Health & Resources
This presentation will provide important data and best practices for preparing and managing mental health crisis. This presentation will discuss the prevalence of mental health challenges and provide executive leadership guidance on current best practices in organizational mental health crisis response. Relevant evidence-based training and model specialized response programs to include behavioral intervention and threat assessment teams will also be highlighted. Information about the national 988 mental health support program will be shared. This session will also focus on cultivating diverse, equitable, and inclusive organizations which is essential to overall employee wellness, and helps leaders to create a culture of belonging for all employees. A portion of the presentation will discuss a variety of model approaches to officer/employee wellness to include peer support, mentoring, critical incident response, mental health wellness checks, and other initiatives focused on promoting health and wellbeing.

The presenter will also focus on how artificial intelligence can help enhance your security system and achieve quicker and more optimum results.
Public Relations & Social Media: Avoiding the Pitfalls in Times of Crisis
This session equips individuals and organizations with the tools to navigate challenging situations in the digital age effectively. This training emphasizes the importance of timely, transparent, and empathetic communication during crises to maintain trust and credibility. Participants learn how to craft clear messages, avoid misinformation, and handle negative feedback on social media platforms, where public perception can shift rapidly. The training also covers strategies for managing reputational risks, responding to online criticism, and using social media as a tool for crisis resolution. By focusing on proactive communication and strategic planning, this training helps prevent minor missteps from escalating into more significant public relations issues.
Safety and Security Assessor Certificate
The session will cover best practices in deterring and preventing crimes related to property and personal safety. The instructor will share information on the phases of conducting an in-house assessment and provide simple step-by-step guidance to each participant on the initial and ongoing assessments. The symposium participants will be grouped and guided to complete a mini assessment in the field. A sample customized assessment template will be provided to all participants.
Supervision and Management of a Safety & Security Team
This session will provide an in-depth look at the fundamental aspects of supervising and managing a safety and security team, especially for new directors or managers stepping into leadership roles. Participants will explore critical topics essential to building and maintaining an effective and resilient security program. Participants will learn foundational strategies for effective leadership, including team motivation, communication, and conflict resolution. The session will provide tactics for newly appointed safety and security leaders to quickly adapt, build trust, and establish authority within their teams. Participants will learn how to create clear, measurable safety and security program goals and craft strategies aligning with the institution's mission. The session will also focus on working effectively with other departments, to ensure a cohesive approach to safety and security. Finally, the session will explore the importance of external partnerships with law enforcement, emergency responders, and other relevant agencies to enhance your security efforts.
Travel Safety & Risk Mitigation
From risk of terrorism, death, abduction, personal safety, property safety, civil unrest, medical episode, to theft of travel document, travel overseas can present significant safety and security concerns for travelers and their organization. Strategically developing a plan and understanding your role can be useful in the event of a crisis. The presenter will share the top travel risks participants should be aware of. Analysis will be conducted for fourteen key pre-assessment risk variables, a plan of action to proactively mitigate the risk variables, and some key considerations to managing any overseas crisis. A pre-assessment template will be shared with participants.

It also provides resources for reporting incidents and supporting victims, contributing to a culture of accountability and respect.
Dire Trends in Substance Abuse
This session will address Dire Trends in Substance Abuse and aims to raise awareness of the alarming rise in substance misuse and its consequences on individuals and society. This training covers the evolving patterns of drug and alcohol abuse, focusing on emerging threats like the opioid crisis, synthetic drugs, and the increased misuse of prescription medications. Participants will learn about the underlying causes of addiction, such as stress, mental health issues, and socioeconomic factors, while also gaining insights into the warning signs and health risks associated with substance use. The training emphasizes prevention strategies, treatment options, and support systems available to individuals struggling with addiction, promoting early intervention and community-based responses to combat the growing crisis.

We will also explore the potential of partnerships between schools, law enforcement, and government agencies in identifying and securing resources for campus safety. The session will guide participants on effectively utilizing state and federal resources to develop comprehensive safety and security programs that cater to the unique needs of their institutions.
