Successful Collaboration Between Campus Police/Public Safety & Prosecutors

The successful criminal investigation and prosecution of crime on campus require a collaborative effort. To further the collaboration between campus police/public safety and prosecutors, IACLEA and the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) invite you to attend a 90-minute moderated discussion on August 12, 2021, at 2:00 pm eastern that will examine the investigation and prosecution of campus crime. This discussion will aim to increase the general understanding of the roles and overlap between campus police, public safety officers and prosecutors, and will explore how each can work together more effectively when investigating and prosecuting a crime that occurs on campus.

Specific topics to be addressed include:
• The general difference between public/private campus police and public safety officers, and the role and authority assigned to each
• Understanding additional considerations faced by college campuses including the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Title IX, and the Clery Act
• The consideration of mandatory reporting requirements and general campus process as they relate to the investigation, arrest, and prosecution
• How to navigate jurisdictional issues.

This course will benefit anyone involved in the policing or prosecuting of campus crimes to include campus police and public safety officers, prosecutors, and local police with college/university campuses in their jurisdictions.
