SVU Detective

Position Summary

Responsible for the investigation of and provision of supportive resources for SVU cases: sexual assaults, relationship violence, stalking, child abuse, vulnerable adult abuse, and missing persons. Will also be responsible for assisting in with CCU cases: mental health related incidents.
Must develop relationships with campus and community stakeholders, other law enforcement agencies, and attend training in trauma-informed, victim-centered, offender-focused investigations.

  • Primary responsibility will be response to Special Victim Unit investigations and Community Care response
  • Patrols campus areas for crime prevention, parking and traffic control, and issues citations.
  • Investigates crimes, accidents and complaints.
  • Interviews witnesses, crime victims, and suspects.
  • Testifies in criminal, civil and administrative hearings.
  • Evaluates and responds to emergencies by requesting fire, medical or maintenance assistance.
  • Prepares reports.
  • Transports persons and property.
  • Obtains and serves warrants, subpoenas and other court documents.
  • Recognizes and identifies safety hazards and ensures the appropriate response.
  • Performs crowd and traffic control at University special events.
  • Performs the duties and fulfills the responsibilities of a Service Officer when assigned.
  • Performs other specialist duties when assigned.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

The job requires: knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program, or attainment of degree within six months of hire; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience investigating Special Victim Unit related incidents

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor's degree 
Experience in SVU investigations

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
1. Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.
2. Other skills and/or physical abilities required to perform duties of the position.
3. This position requires, or will require prior to the completion of the probationary period: knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.
