Campus public safety departments are on the front lines of the intensifying culture clash exploding across the United States—and in particular on college campuses.

Across the United States, groups with vastly different viewpoints on hot-button issues have clashed on college campuses. Sometimes with extreme—even deadly—violence erupting. Campus police—charged with protecting public safety while remaining content neutral—face a new and dangerous challenge.

Even as the tragic violence was unfolding in Charlottesville, Virginia, IACLEA staff and Board Members began developing the latest training in IACLEA’s Emerging Issues Training series. Plans are being finalized, but here’s what you can expect.

WHO: Campus public safety professionals—IACLEA members or non-members

WHAT: Full-day training tentatively titled When Hate Comes to Campus

WHEN & WHERE: October 17, 2017 University of Minnesota - Twin Cities

FEES: $70 for IACLEA members; $150 for non-members. Food is not included.

The training will cover how white nationalist and other groups organize; their leaders; their tactics; and what to expect if a group mobilizes on your campus. Federal law enforcement resources that can assist. And law enforcement tactics to plan for and deploy during a protest. Issues surrounding protecting First Amendment rights while keeping the peace will also be covered.

For more information, contact Josh Bronson, director of training,, 202-618-8840.
