President Dean Sends Condolence in the Wake of UNLV Tragedy

Dear Campus Law Enforcement Administrators,

It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I address you today in the aftermath of the tragic shooting at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The events that unfolded on the UNLV campus yesterday have left us all grappling with the profound impact of such a senseless act of violence.

The suspect had once applied for a professorship at UNLV and, for reasons yet unknown, resorted to a horrific act that has left the UNLV campus in mourning. As campus law enforcement and public safety administrators, we understand the weight of the responsibility that rests upon our shoulders to ensure the safety and security of our academic institutions. In moments like these, our commitment to safeguarding the well-being of students, faculty, and staff is put to the ultimate test.

The UNLV police officers, the unsung heroes in times of crisis, responded with courage and professionalism. Their swift actions in neutralizing the shooter undoubtedly saved lives, and we are forever grateful for their dedication, sacrifice, and demonstration of unwavering commitment to protecting the UNLV campus community.

As we come to terms with the shock of this incident, let us remember the resilience of our campus communities. In the face of adversity, we must draw strength from each other and work together to heal. Our campuses are spaces of learning, growth, and community, and our collective responsibility is to ensure they remain safe havens for all.

In the days and weeks ahead, let us unite to provide support, comfort, and solace to those affected by this tragedy. As the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, we stand in solidarity with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and we offer our unwavering support to our colleagues at the UNLV Police Department who have faced this ordeal with courage and grace.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of the victims who lost their lives in this senseless act. May we find strength in unity as we navigate these challenging times and strive to create a safer and more secure environment for our academic communities.

Sincerely,

Chief Paul H Dean
