Board of Directors Nominations

Board of Directors Nominating Period is Open!

Dear IACLEA members,

The Association's goal in the nomination and election process is to produce an effective volunteer leadership team. The Board supports an open nomination process to infuse the Association with new leadership while simultaneously maintaining continuity and insight into the Association's needs and functions.  A further goal of this process is to ensure Board representation that reflects membership diversity.

The nominating process begins with you, the membership. We ask you to contribute by identifying individuals with outstanding potential for leadership roles in our Association. Your suggestions will provide the basis for the Leadership Development Committee's deliberations.

The nominating process and elections are critical to the long-term success of the Association. Based on your nominations, the Leadership Development Committee will develop a slate of candidates for President-Elect, Director-At-Large, several Regional Director positions.  As you think about individuals whom you'd like to nominate, please consider the following recommended criteria for each position.

  • President-Elect Nominee: The President-Elect shall assist the President in the administration of the Association; oversee the progress of all Association committees; and shall perform such duties as are delegated and assigned by the President or the Board of Directors. The President-Elect shall also perform the duties of President in the event that the President is unable to serve.

Candidates nominated must be Institutional Representatives who have completed or will be completing two years of service on the Board of Directors. The President-Elect shall serve for a term of one year; however, this is a three-year commitment; one year as President-Elect, one year as President, and one year as Immediate Past President.

  • Director-At-Large:  Directors shall serve for a term of three years or until their successors have been elected and assume office. Candidates for the position of Director shall be Institutional Representatives in good standing for a minimum of two consecutive years before being elected.

Individuals who are members in good standing at one institution but change their place of employment to another institution which is, or becomes, an Institutional Member of the Association, will not lose eligibility or tenure as a member in good standing as it relates to director positions held in the Association.

Current terms in the following regions will be expiring: Canada, International, Mid-Atlantic, and Mountain Pacific.  While Regional Directors may be eligible for re-election, members will also have the opportunity to nominate individuals for these positions.

  • Regional Directors: Regional Directors shall serve for a term of three years or until their successors have been elected and assume office.

Candidates for the position of Regional Director shall be Institutional Representatives in good standing for a minimum of two consecutive years before being elected. Regional Directors who change their place of employment to another institution outside of the region from which they were elected will no longer be eligible to serve as the Regional Director. However, such Regional Directors shall not lose tenure as a Board member as it relates to eligibility for time served on the Board to qualify for officer positions in the Association.

Your input is important. Please carefully consider members who you would like to see in leadership positions.  Before submitting their names, contact them to be sure that they would be willing to serve if nominated and elected.  For the officer positions of President-Elect, in particular, acceptance of nomination implies a willingness to make a significant commitment of time and energy to the Association.

If you have questions about what is required of someone who becomes a board member, I encourage you to contact any current or former board members to get their insights.
